Dell XPS 15 90 running Windows 10 Home (Version 22H2) and Dell Thunderbolt Dock - WD19TB not detected
A month ago, my Dell XPS 15 90 laptop stopped connecting correctly to the Dell Thunderbolt Dock - WD19TB. The dock still charges the laptop, but it's not recognized by the operating system. In this article, we'll discuss potential solutions to this issue.
Check Docking Station Connection
- Ensure the docking station is properly connected to the laptop and the power source.
- Check the physical connections between the laptop, dock, and power adapter.
- Verify that the docking station's ports are not obstructed.
Update Drivers
- Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click Dell Thunderbolt Dock and select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.
Check Power Management Settings
- Press the Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
- Click on Hardware and Sound, then Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to the currently active power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the USB settings, then USB selective suspend setting.
- Set the settings for both On battery and Plugged in to Disabled.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Reinstall Docking Station Drivers
- Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click Dell Thunderbolt Dock and select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the uninstallation.
- Restart your laptop.
- After restarting, the docking station should be automatically reinstalled.
Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and press the F2 key during bootup to enter the BIOS settings.
- Navigate to the Thunderbolt settings.
- Ensure that the Thunderbolt Controller is enabled.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS settings.
