Read MoreAn amateur radio operator, Doug, successfully communicated with a NASA astronaut, Woody Hoburg, from his backyard. Doug used a simple antenna and a dual-band VHF/UHF amateur radio transceiver to make contact with the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS has a radio station that astronauts use to communicate with schools and other radio amateurs during their free time. The first amateur radio transmission from space was made in 1983 by astronaut Owen Garriott. ARISS, an organization created by volunteers from various countries, organizes contacts between radio amateurs and ISS astronauts, which are usually prepared in schools for students to ask questions. However, the coincidence for other radio amateurs like Doug to make contact with the ISS is triple: the ISS must be in sight, an astronaut must be available during their free time, and they must be near the radio. Astronauts usually announce on social media when they will be available for radio communication to avoid wasting time for radio amateurs. Nonetheless, patience is key.
Read MoreA recent study by a team of astronomers, including experts from the National Aerospace Technology Institute (INTA) and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), has challenged the long-held belief that Urano is intensely blue. The researchers analyzed images of Urano and Neptune, focusing on their color. The study reveals that Urano is not as intensely blue as previously thought, but rather a lighter blue-green color, similar to its neighbor Neptune. The color of Uranus changes over the course of a year, with the planet appearing greener during the solstices when one of its poles points towards the Sun. The researchers used data from various telescopes, including the Hubble Space Telescope and the VLT (Large Telescope) of the European Southern Observatory, to determine the true color of the planet. The study also highlights how these observations have helped refine the models that describe the atmospheres of these planets.

Read MoreSpaceX's historic booster B1058 toppled over on the droneship during its transport back to the port after launching 43 Starlink satellites and completing 19 successful flights. The booster was expected to become the first SpaceX rocket to reach 20 flights. B1058 made its debut on May 30, 2020, during one of SpaceX's most important missions, launching astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, the first crewed mission for the Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. Since then, B1058 has broken multiple records, including becoming the first SpaceX booster to complete 14 successful flights. The Falcon 9 Block 5 is certified for 10 missions, but an in-depth evaluation of B1058 showed that it could fly at least 20 missions. Unlike the future Starship, the Falcon 9 is partially reusable, with SpaceX reusing the payload fairing (the cone-shaped part that protects the satellites) and the first stage (a propulsion system with nine engines capable of returning to the launch site and landing vertically). The more modern Falcon 9 boosters have improved landing legs that can compensate for crosswinds. However, this is not a common problem. Boosters B1060, B1061, and B1062 have flown 17 times and are ready to break B1058's record.
Read MoreSpaceX, founded by Elon Musk in 2002, aims to colonize Mars. The ambitious plan requires at least a thousand Starships and two decades of work. Before starting SpaceX, Musk briefly joined the Mars Society, where he announced a project called Mars Oasis, which intended to install a small greenhouse on Mars to rekindle public interest in Mars exploration. Musk's goal has since evolved into transforming humanity into a multi-planetary species capable of surviving a catastrophe on Earth. In practical terms, it means creating the infrastructure for a self-sustaining human settlement on Mars. SpaceX has made significant progress, but the timeline remains optimistic. Musk plans to send a fleet of Starships, reusable spacecraft capable of carrying over 100 tons of cargo at minimal cost, to Mars to build a self-sufficient city. However, SpaceX still needs to demonstrate the first point, and Musk's optimism has raised questions about the feasibility of his plan.

Read MoreSpaceX and Blue Origin are competing for contracts with NASA and to be the first to launch a spacecraft to orbit. Both companies are also working to develop reusable rocket technology for space travel. Despite their professional rivalry, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are working towards a common goal: to make space travel accessible to the masses and to establish a sustainable presence on other planets. In a recent interview, Bezos revealed that he and Musk share the same vision for the future of humanity: a future where humans are a multiplanetary species. While the two companies have different approaches to achieving this goal, they are united in their pursuit of a common goal. The article explores the challenges and opportunities of space exploration, and how the rivalry between the two companies is driving innovation and progress in the field of space travel. It also looks at the potential impact of space exploration on the future of humanity and the role that private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin will play in shaping this future.
Read MoreIf you're experiencing a lot of space for /dev/mapper/centos-root after freshly provisioning Cent-OS, you may need to check the partition size and make adjustments. This can be done by using the 'df' command and checking the size of the /dev/mapper/centos-root partition. If the partition is larger than expected, you can try to resize it using the 'resize2fs' command. It's important to make sure you have a backup of your data before making any changes to your partition size. Additionally, you may need to check your system configuration to ensure that the partition is being used correctly and that the space is being utilized efficiently.
Read MoreThe relationship between the United States and China has changed drastically in the last decade, particularly in the commercial sphere. However, the scientific cooperation between the two countries has not developed significantly. The United States has prohibited the NASA from collaborating with China in space-related projects since 2011, and China has stopped signing a cooperation agreement in scientific and technological matters since 2018. The two countries' space agencies have been turning their backs on each other. However, the Chinese space agency is interested in the samples of the Chang'e 5 mission, which landed on the moon in 2020 and brought back samples of the lunar surface. The collaboration is a controversial issue, as the United States has imposed sanctions on China's space program. However, the NASA is open to collaborating with China until the end of 2021. The two countries have different opinions on the issue. The collaboration would be a diplomatic victory for China and a scientific victory for the NASA. The United States has a lot of samples from the Apollo missions to negotiate with, and China is interested in exchanging samples. The collaboration could open the door to a long-term partnership between the two countries. However, the United States is reluctant to remove the Wolf Amendment, which prohibits the NASA from collaborating with China without Congressional approval. The collaboration would be a significant step forward for space exploration, and it could lead to a technological revolution in the field.
