Maintaining Internet Access in a Two-Router Setup: Linksys Smart WiFi Router and TP-Link ER605 Router

In this article, we will discuss how to set up a two-router system with a Linksys Smart WiFi router (LAN network 192.168.1.0/24) and a TP-Link ER605 router. This setup allows for better network coverage and improved performance.

Why Use a Two-Router Setup?

A two-router setup can provide better network coverage, especially in large homes or offices. By connecting the two routers, you can create a mesh network that ensures a strong and stable connection throughout the area.

Setting Up the Two-Router System

1. Connect the Linksys Router to the Internet

First, connect the Linksys router to the modem using an Ethernet cable. Plug the modem into a power source and turn it on. Then, connect the Linksys router to a power source and turn it on.

2. Configure the Linksys Router

Access the Linksys router's web interface by entering 192.168.1.1 in a web browser. Log in with the default username and password (usually admin for both). Change the password for security reasons.

3. Set Up the TP-Link Router

Connect the TP-Link router to a power source and turn it on. Connect one of its LAN ports to a LAN port on the Linksys router using an Ethernet cable.

4. Configure the TP-Link Router

Access the TP-Link router's web interface by entering 192.168.1.2 in a web browser. Log in with the default username and password (usually admin for both). Change the password for security reasons.

5. Set the TP-Link Router as a DHCP Client

In the TP-Link router's web interface, go to the Network > DHCP Server settings. Disable the DHCP Server and set the router to obtain an IP address automatically.

6. Set the TP-Link Router as a Router

Go to the Network > Routing settings. Enable the Routing and NAT options. Set the WAN Connection Type to Static IP and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway of the Linksys router.

7. Reboot the Routers

Reboot both routers to apply the changes.

Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble with the internet connection, try the following steps:

• Check the cables to ensure they're properly connected.
• Make sure both routers are powered on and connected to a power source.
• Ensure that the TP-Link router is set as a DHCP client and the Linksys router is set as the default gateway.
• Reset both routers to their factory settings and repeat the setup process.
