Fix Duplicate IP Addresses on DHCP Server (Mesh Wi-Fi)

Setting up a Google Wi-Fi mesh network at home can be a straightforward process, especially when the entire DHCP pool is managed by the main AP/router (the one connected to the ISP). However, if you encounter issues after rebooting the router, here's a troubleshooting guide to help you resolve the problem.

Prerequisites

Before you start, ensure you have the following:

1. A Google Wi-Fi system (one main point and at least one additional point)
2. A working internet connection from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
3. The Google Home app installed on your mobile device (Android or iOS)

Steps to Troubleshoot Google Wi-Fi Mesh Setup

Step 1: Check the Google Wi-Fi App

1. Open the Google Home app on your mobile device.
2. Tap the Home icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.
3. Scroll down and find your Google Wi-Fi network.
4. Tap on it and ensure the status shows as Connected.

Step 2: Check the Lights on Your Google Wi-Fi Points

1. Locate your Google Wi-Fi points.
2. Check the lights on each point. A solid white light means the point is connected to the internet, while a blinking white light means it's in setup mode.

Step 3: Reboot the Google Wi-Fi Points

1. Unplug the power cord from each Google Wi-Fi point.
2. Wait for about 30 seconds.
3. Plug the power cord back into each point.
4. Wait for the lights to turn solid white.

Step 4: Check the DHCP Pool

1. Log into your router's admin interface.
2. Navigate to the DHCP client list or DHCP pool settings.
3. Check if all the devices connected to your network have unique IP addresses.

Step 5: Factory Reset the Google Wi-Fi Points

If the problem persists, you may need to factory reset your Google Wi-Fi points.

1. Locate the reset button on each Google Wi-Fi point.
2. Use a paper clip or similar object to press and hold the reset button for about 25 seconds.
3. Release the reset button and wait for the lights to turn solid white.
4. Repeat this process for all Google Wi-Fi points.

Step 6: Set Up the Google Wi-Fi Network Again

1. Open the Google Home app on your mobile device.
2. Tap the + icon at the top left corner of the screen.
3. Tap Set up device.
4. Select Networking and then Wi-Fi point.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.
