Drag and Drop: Increase Rows and Columns in Excel
In Excel, you can easily increase the number of rows or columns in a worksheet using the drag-and-drop feature. This method is useful when you need to add new data or make adjustments to your spreadsheet.
Prerequisites
Before you start, ensure that you have the latest version of Microsoft Excel installed on your computer.
Steps to Increase Rows
1. Right-click on the row number below where you want to add a new row.
2. Select "Insert" from the context menu.
3. A new row will be added above the selected row.
Steps to Increase Columns
1. Right-click on the column letter to the right of where you want to add a new column.
2. Select "Insert" from the context menu.
3. A new column will be added to the left of the selected column.
Special Paste Transpose
If you want to paste data from another location into your worksheet and transpose the data (i.e., convert rows to columns or columns to rows), you can use the "Paste Special" feature with the "Transpose" option:
- Copy the data you want to paste from the source worksheet.
- Right-click on the cell where you want to paste the data in the destination worksheet.
- Select "Paste Special" from the context menu.
- In the "Paste Special" dialog box, check the "Transpose" option and click "OK".
Example: Adding Rows and Columns Using the Data from Column B to Row 140
Suppose you have data in columns A and B, and you want to add 130 new rows and 2 new columns to your worksheet, using the data from column B in rows 140 to DE 140. Here's how to do it:
Step 1: Insert New Columns
1. Right-click on column F (or the column letter to the right of where you want to add the new columns).
2. Select "Insert" from the context menu.
3. Two new columns will be added to the left of column F.
Step 2: Insert New Rows
1. Right-click on row 131 (or the row number below where you want to add the new rows).
2. Select "Insert" from the context menu.
3. 130 new rows will be added above row 131.
Transposing Data from Column B to Rows 140 to DE 140
Now, let's transpose the data from column B to rows 140 to DE 140:
Step 3: Transpose Data
1. Select the data in column B that you want to transpose (cells B10 to B117).
2. Right-click on any of the selected cells and select "Copy".
3. Right-click on cell DE140 and select "Paste Special".
4. In the "Paste Special" dialog box, check the "Transpose" option and click "OK".
- To increase rows: Right-click on the row number below where you want to add a new row, select "Insert", and a new row will be added above the selected row.
- To increase columns: Right-click on the column letter to the right of where you want to add a new column, select "Insert", and a new column will be added to the left of the selected column.
- To transpose data: Copy the data you want to transpose, right-click on the destination cell, select "Paste Special", check the "Transpose" option, and click "OK".
