Connecting an External Monitor to a Laptop and Making it the Primary Display in Windows
When you connect an external monitor to your laptop, Windows typically defaults to using the laptop's built-in display as the primary display. However, you can change this setting so that the external monitor becomes the primary display instead. This can be useful if you want to use the external monitor as your main workspace, or if you find that the external monitor's resolution or refresh rate is better suited to your needs.
Connecting the External Monitor
To connect an external monitor to your laptop, you will need to use a video cable that is compatible with both the laptop and the monitor. Changing the Primary Display

The monitor that is in the "1" position will be the primary display.
- Click on the
Applybutton to save the changes. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to keep the changes. Click onKeep changesto make the external monitor the primary display.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble getting the external monitor to work, there are a few things that you can try:
- Make sure that the cable is securely connected to both the laptop and the monitor.
- Try using a different cable to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable.
- Check the monitor's input settings to make sure that it is set to the correct input (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA).
