ASRock H610M-HVS Motherboard Upgrade: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor Lights Not Turning On
If you've recently upgraded your computer with an ASRock H610M-HVS motherboard, along with new RAM and a processor, and are experiencing issues with your keyboard, mouse, and monitor not turning on.
Checking the Power Supply
First, make sure that your power supply is properly connected and functioning. Check that the power cord is securely plugged into both the wall outlet and the power supply unit (PSU). If the PSU has a power switch, ensure that it is turned on. You can also test the PSU by unplugging it from the wall outlet, pressing and holding the power button on the front of the computer case for 30 seconds to drain any residual power, then plugging it back in and attempting to turn on the computer again.
Checking the RAM
If the power supply is functioning properly, the next step is to check the RAM. Make sure that the RAM modules are seated securely in their slots. Try removing the RAM modules and reinserting them, ensuring that they click into place. If you have multiple RAM modules, try removing all but one to see if the system will boot with just one module installed. If the system boots with one module, try adding the others one at a time to determine which module is causing the issue.
Checking the Processor
If the RAM is not the issue, the next step is to check the processor. Make sure that the processor is properly seated in its socket and that the cooler is securely attached. If you recently applied thermal paste, make sure that it is spread evenly and not too thick. If the processor is not seated properly or if the thermal paste is not applied correctly, the system may not boot.
Checking the Monitor
If the system is booting but the monitor is not displaying anything, make sure that the monitor is turned on and that the video cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the motherboard. If the monitor has multiple video inputs, make sure that the correct input is selected. If the monitor still does not display anything, try using a different video cable or a different monitor to rule out the possibility of a faulty cable or monitor.
Checking the Keyboard and Mouse
If the system is booting and the monitor is displaying correctly, but the keyboard and mouse are not working, make sure that they are properly connected to the motherboard. If they are connected via USB, try using a different USB port. If the keyboard and mouse still do not work, try using different keyboard and mouse to rule out the possibility of a faulty device.
Checking the BIOS
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, try resetting the BIOS to its default settings. To do this, turn off the system, unplug the power cord, and remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds. Reinsert the CMOS battery and plug the power cord back in. Turn on the system and press the appropriate key to enter the BIOS setup (usually Del or F2). Navigate to the "Load Optimized Defaults" or "Load Setup Defaults" option and press Enter. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup. The system should now boot normally.
