This article will guide you through the steps to prevent this from happening, allowing you to keep your preferred monitor configuration.

Understanding the Issue

Windows 11 has a feature that automatically detects connected HDMI devices and sets them as the primary monitor. This behavior can be inconvenient, especially if you prefer to use your computer with a different monitor as the primary display. To resolve this issue, you can change the display settings and configure Windows 11 to prevent the automatic activation of the HDMI-connected TV as the primary monitor.

Modifying Display Settings

To modify the display settings, follow these steps:

1. Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
2. In the left sidebar, click on System and then select Display from the right pane.
3. Scroll down to the Multiple displays section and click on Identify to ensure that Windows 11 recognizes both of your monitors correctly.
4. If the HDMI-connected TV is set as the main display, click on the monitor icon representing your preferred primary monitor and select Make this my main display.

6. Click OK to save the changes and close the Local Group Policy Editor.
