Samsung Magician Not Detecting EVO 870 SSD Plugged in SATA USB
If you've recently purchased a 1TB Samsung EVO 870 SSD and are having trouble getting Samsung Magician to detect it when it's plugged in via a SATA USB enclosure, you're not alone. This issue has been reported by a number of users, and there are a few potential solutions you can try.
Checking Connections and Power
The first thing to do is to make sure that the SSD is properly connected to the USB enclosure and that the enclosure is receiving power. Try using a different USB port or a different USB cable to rule out any issues with those components.
Updating Samsung Magician
If the SSD is properly connected and receiving power, the next step is to make sure that you are using the latest version of Samsung Magician. You can download the latest version from the Samsung website. Once you have installed the update, try running Samsung Magician again to see if the SSD is detected.
Formatting the SSD
If Samsung Magician still isn't detecting the SSD, it's possible that the drive needs to be formatted. Before you do this, make sure that you have backed up any important data on the drive, as formatting will erase all data on the drive.
To format the SSD, open My Computer (or This PC on Windows 10) and right-click on the drive. Select "Format" and follow the prompts to format the drive. Once the format is complete, try running Samsung Magician again to see if the drive is detected.
Checking Device Manager
If Samsung Magician still isn't detecting the SSD, you can try checking the Device Manager to see if the drive is listed there. To do this, press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager" from the menu. Expand the "Disk drives" section and see if the SSD is listed there.
If the SSD is listed, you can try updating the driver for the drive by right-clicking on the drive and selecting "Update driver." Follow the prompts to update the driver, then try running Samsung Magician again to see if the drive is detected.
Using a Different USB Enclosure
If none of the above solutions have worked, it's possible that the issue is with the USB enclosure itself. Try using a different USB enclosure to see if the SSD is detected. If it is, then the issue is likely with the original enclosure.
Contacting Samsung Support
If you have tried all of the above solutions and the SSD is still not being detected by Samsung Magician, it's time to contact Samsung support. They may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps or replace the drive if it is found to be defective.
