Dell OEM Support Assist Software: Windows Key No Longer Brings Start Menu, Middle Mouse Button Scrolling No Longer Works
Dell OEM Support Assist software is a useful tool for keeping your Dell computer up-to-date with the latest drivers and software. However, some users have reported an issue where, after a recent driver update, the Windows key no longer brings up the Start menu, and middle mouse button scrolling no longer works.
Windows Key No Longer Brings Up Start Menu
This issue can be caused by a number of factors, including a corrupt system file or a third-party application that is interfering with the Windows key. To troubleshoot this issue, try the following steps:
- Restart your computer and try pressing the Windows key again. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve the issue.
- Check for any third-party applications that may be interfering with the Windows key. Some security software and keyboard remapping tools can cause this issue. Try disabling these applications and see if the Windows key starts working again.
- Run the System File Checker tool to check for any corrupt system files. To do this, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following command:
sfc /scannow - If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to perform a clean boot to eliminate any software conflicts. To do this, press the Windows key + R, type
msconfigand press Enter. Go to the Services tab, check the Hide all Microsoft services option, and then click Disable all. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. In the Task Manager, disable all startup items and restart your computer.
Middle Mouse Button Scrolling No Longer Works
If middle mouse button scrolling no longer works after a recent driver update, it is likely that the driver update has changed the scrolling settings. To resolve this issue, try the following steps:
- Check the mouse settings in the Control Panel. Go to the Control Panel, select Mouse, and then go to the Wheel tab. Make sure that the Vertical Scrolling option is set to One line at a time or Two lines at a time.
- Check the settings in the Dell OEM Support Assist software. Go to the Dell OEM Support Assist software, select the mouse driver, and then check the settings. Make sure that the middle mouse button scrolling is enabled.
- Roll back the mouse driver to the previous version. To do this, go to the Device Manager, expand the Mice and other pointing devices category, right-click on the mouse driver, and then select Properties. Go to the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver, and then follow the prompts.
