Step 1: Open Chrome Settings

To get started, open Google Chrome on your computer. Look for the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of the browser window and click on them. From the dropdown menu, select "Settings". Alternatively, you can directly access the Chrome settings by typing "chrome://settings/" in the address bar.

Step 2: Manage Search Engines

In the Chrome settings, scroll down until you find the "Search engine" section. Click on the "Manage search engines" button to proceed.

Step 3: Add a URL Nickname

In the "Other search engines" section, you will see a list of search engines you have used before. Scroll to the bottom of the list and click on the "Add" button to create a new search engine.

A new window will appear, asking you to fill in three fields:

• Search engine: Enter a name for your URL nickname. It can be anything you want, such as "Facebook" or "Gmail".
• Keyword: Type the keyword you want to use as a shortcut for the website. For example, if you want to access Facebook by typing "fb" in the address bar, enter "fb" in this field.
• URL: Finally, enter the full website address (URL) of the webpage you want to create a nickname for. Make sure to include the "http://" or "https://" prefix.

Once you have filled in all the fields, click on the "Add" button to save your new URL nickname.

Step 4: Test Your URL Nickname

Now that you have created a URL nickname, it's time to test it out! Open a new tab in Chrome and type the keyword you assigned in the address bar, followed by a space. For example, if you created a nickname for Facebook with the keyword "fb", type "fb " (without quotes) in the address bar.

As soon as you type the space, Chrome will automatically recognize the URL nickname and display it as a suggestion below the address bar. Simply press Enter to navigate to the website associated with the URL nickname.

Step 5: Edit or Remove URL Nicknames

If you ever need to edit or remove a URL nickname in Chrome, you can easily do so by following these steps:

• Go back to the Chrome settings by clicking on the three vertical dots and selecting "Settings" or by typing "chrome://settings/" in the address bar.
• Scroll down to the "Search engine" section and click on "Manage search engines".
• Locate the URL nickname you want to edit or remove in the "Other search engines" list.
• To edit the URL nickname, click on the three vertical dots next to it and select "Edit". Make the necessary changes and click "Save".
• To remove the URL nickname, click on the three vertical dots next to it and select "Remove from list". Confirm the removal by clicking "OK".
