Thunderbird is a popular email client that offers a range of features to help you manage your emails efficiently. One of these features is the message header toolbar, which includes icons for functions like Reply, Forward, and Archive. While these icons can be useful for many users, some people may prefer a cleaner and simpler interface. If you are one of them, you'll be glad to know that you can easily remove these icons from the Thunderbird message header toolbar. In this article, we will guide you through the process.
Step 1: Open Thunderbird
First, launch the Thunderbird application on your computer. You can find it in your list of installed programs or by searching for it in the Start menu.
Step 2: Access the Thunderbird Options
Once Thunderbird is open, click on the menu icon in the top-right corner of the window. It looks like three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other. From the drop-down menu, select "Options".
Step 3: Navigate to the "Advanced" Tab
In the Thunderbird Options window, you will see a list of tabs on the left-hand side. Click on the "Advanced" tab to proceed.
Step 4: Click on the "Config Editor" Button
Under the "Advanced" tab, you will find a button labeled "Config Editor". Click on this button to open the Thunderbird Configuration Editor.
Step 5: Confirm the Security Warning
When you click on the "Config Editor" button, a warning message may appear stating that changing advanced settings can be risky. Click on the "I accept the risk!" button to proceed.
Step 6: Search for the Preference
In the Thunderbird Configuration Editor, you will see a search bar at the top. Type "mailnews.headers.showSender" (without quotes) into the search bar and press Enter.
Step 7: Double-click on the Preference
After searching, you should see a preference named "mailnews.headers.showSender" in the list below. Double-click on this preference to modify its value.
Step 8: Disable the Functionality
A dialog box will appear, allowing you to change the value of the preference. By default, the value is set to "true", which means the icons are displayed. To remove the icons, change the value to "false" and click on the "OK" button.
Step 9: Restart Thunderbird
Finally, close the Thunderbird Configuration Editor and restart Thunderbird for the changes to take effect. When Thunderbird reopens, you will notice that the Reply, Forward, and Archive icons are no longer visible in the message header toolbar.
That's it! You have successfully removed the icons from the Thunderbird message header toolbar. If you ever want to bring them back, simply follow the same steps and change the value of the preference back to "true". Enjoy your cleaner Thunderbird interface!
