Automatically Trigger Grid Search with tuneGrid in R caret?

Working on a multi-class classification project and currently in the hyperparameter optimization stage. Running a grid search is going well with R caret and defining a grid to pass to tuneGrid. The question is whether it is possible to automatically trigger the grid search with tuneGrid in R caret?
