Recently, the internal storage of a Microsoft Surface 3 has died, making the tablet PC not worth trying to replace. In this article, we will discuss how to use an SD card as a replacement drive using UEFI.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding, ensure the following:

You have a Microsoft Surface 3 with a dead internal storage.
You have a compatible SD card (preferably with a capacity larger than the original internal storage).
You have a USB-to-SD card adapter.
You have a Windows 10 installation media (ISO file) on a USB drive.

Steps to Replace Internal Storage with SD Card (UEFI)

Insert the SD card into the USB-to-SD card adapter and connect it to your Surface 3.
Boot your Surface 3 from the Windows 10 installation media.
During the installation process, when prompted to select the drive where you want to install Windows 10, select the SD card.
