MS Account and Outlook Application on Windows Laptop
A Microsoft (MS) account is used for several reasons, such as Windows laptop or Office subscription. Recently, opening the Outlook application on a laptop created the following issues:
Issue Encountered
Upon opening the Outlook application, the following error message appeared:
Outlook cannot open the Outlook Data File "C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst" because the file is in use by another program or user.
Possible Causes
The following reasons might have caused this issue:
- Another instance of Outlook is running in the background.
- Another program or user is accessing the Outlook Data File.
- Corrupted or damaged Outlook Data File.
Resolution Steps
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Close all instances of Outlook and other email clients running in the background.
- Exit Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Restart the computer.
- If the issue persists, try renaming the Outlook Data File.
- Create a new Outlook Data File and set it as the default.
