Restarting AirDrop on MacBook Pro (Monterey) to Receive Files from iPhone
AirDrop is a convenient feature that allows you to wirelessly transfer files between Apple devices. However, sometimes you might encounter issues when trying to receive files from an iPhone on a MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey. One common problem is that AirDrop isn't broadcasting, despite being set to discoverable.
Check AirDrop Status on Both Devices
Before attempting to restart AirDrop, make sure that it is enabled on both your MacBook Pro and your iPhone. Here's how to check:
-
MacBook Pro:
Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen and select "AirDrop." Make sure that it is set to "Receiving Only" or "Contacts Only," depending on your preference.
-
iPhone:
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center. Tap and hold on the AirDrop icon until it shows "Contacts Only" or "Everyone."
Restart AirDrop on MacBook Pro
If AirDrop is still not broadcasting, try restarting it on your MacBook Pro:
-
Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen.
-
Select "System Preferences."
-
Click on "Displays."
-
Find your MacBook Pro's display in the list and click on the "Display" tab.
-
Click on the "Arrangement" tab.
-
Click on the "Options" tab.
-
Find "AirDrop" in the list and toggle it off, then back on.
Restart AirDrop on iPhone
If restarting AirDrop on your MacBook Pro did not solve the issue, try restarting it on your iPhone:
-
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center.
-
Tap and hold on the AirDrop icon until it shows "Off."
-
Wait a few seconds, then tap on the AirDrop icon again to turn it back on.
Check Network Connection
If neither device's AirDrop is broadcasting, check your network connection:
-
Make sure that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
-
Try turning Wi-Fi off and on again on both devices.
-
If you're using a VPN, try disconnecting from it.
Reset Network Settings
If none of the above solutions work, try resetting your MacBook Pro's network settings:
-
Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen.
-
Select "System Preferences."
-
Click on "Network."
-
Select your Wi-Fi connection and click on the "Advanced" button.
-
Click on the "Wi-Fi" tab and click on the "-" button to delete the Wi-Fi network.
-
Click "OK" to confirm.
-
Click the "Back" button to go back to the Network preferences.
-
Click on "Network" in the left sidebar and then click on "Advanced".
-
Select "TCP/IP" and make sure that "Configure IPv4" is set to "Using DHCP."
-
Click "OK" to save the changes.
If you're having trouble receiving files from an iPhone on your MacBook Pro using AirDrop, try restarting AirDrop on both devices, checking your network connection, and resetting your MacBook Pro's network settings. If none of these solutions work, you may need to contact Apple Support for further assistance.
