Windows 11: Hide Labels and Combine Taskbar Button Groups
In the latest version of Windows, Microsoft has introduced several new features and changes to the user interface, including the taskbar. One of the new options available in the taskbar settings is the ability to hide labels and combine taskbar button groups. This feature can help declutter the taskbar and give it a cleaner look.
Disabling Labels on the Taskbar
To disable labels on the taskbar, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the taskbar and select
Taskbar settings. - Under the
Taskbarsection, find theCombine taskbar buttonsoption. - Select the
Always, hide labelsoption.
Once you have selected this option, the labels for the taskbar buttons will be hidden, giving the taskbar a more compact appearance. This can be especially useful if you have many programs open and want to quickly access the one you need without having to scan through a long list of labels.
Combining Taskbar Button Groups
In addition to hiding labels, you can also combine taskbar button groups. This option allows you to group similar buttons together, making it easier to find the program you are looking for. To enable this option, follow these steps:
- Right-click on the taskbar and select
Taskbar settings. - Under the
Taskbarsection, find theCombine taskbar buttonsoption. - Select the
When taskbar is fullorAlways, hide labelsoption.
Once you have selected this option, similar taskbar buttons will be grouped together. For example, if you have multiple windows open for the same program, they will be grouped together under a single button. To access a specific window, simply hover over the grouped button and select the window you want to open.
Notice the Gigantic Empty Space and Nothingness
One thing to note when using these options is that they can result in a large empty space on the taskbar. This is because the buttons are now smaller and grouped together, leaving more space between them. Some users may find this empty space to be distracting or unnecessary. However, others may appreciate the cleaner look and additional space for other icons or notifications.
