Make Windows 10 Night Mode Even Darker: Registry Hack
If you're a Windows 10 user and you've already set the Night Mode slider to its highest level, but you're still not satisfied with the darkness, then this article is for you. In this guide, we'll show you how to hack the registry to create an even darker filter for Night Mode.
What is Night Mode?
Night Mode, also known as "dark mode," is a feature in Windows 10 that reduces the amount of blue light emitted by the screen. This can help reduce eye strain and improve sleep quality, especially when using the computer in a low-light environment. Night Mode can be accessed through the Action Center or the Settings app.
Why Hack the Registry?
While Night Mode is a useful feature, some users may find that the highest level of darkness is not enough. Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to increase the intensity of Night Mode beyond its maximum setting. However, by modifying the registry, we can create a custom filter that is even darker than the default setting.
Important Warning
Before we proceed, it's important to note that editing the registry can be risky if not done correctly. Always make a backup of your registry before making any changes. If you're not comfortable with this process, it may be best to seek help from a more experienced user or avoid making these changes altogether.
Step-by-Step Guide
Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type "regedit" and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudExperienceHost\StateStore\TimeZoneRight-click on the right-hand side of the window and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the new value "AppsUseLightTheme" and set its value to 0.
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\PersonalizeRight-click on the right-hand side of the window and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the new value "SystemUsesLightTheme" and set its value to 0.
Create another new DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it "AppsUseLightTheme". Set its value to 0.
Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
By following the steps outlined in this article, you can create a custom filter for Night Mode in Windows 10 that is even darker than the default setting. This can help reduce eye strain and improve sleep quality, especially when using the computer in a low-light environment. However, it's important to note that editing the registry can be risky if not done correctly, so always make a backup of your registry before making any changes.
