Can't Connect to Wireless Network on HP Laptop: Solutions
Having trouble connecting to a wireless network on your HP laptop? You've tried updating the computer, updating drivers, forgetting the network, rebooting the router, and running cmd commands, but still no luck. Don't worry, this article will cover the key concepts and solutions to help you get back online.
Check the Wireless Switch
Many HP laptops have a physical wireless switch on the side or front of the computer. Make sure this switch is turned on and the wireless light is illuminated.
Verify Network Adapter is Enabled
Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager from the menu. Expand the Network Adapters section and ensure that the wireless adapter is enabled. If it is disabled, right-click on the adapter and select Enable device.
Disable and Enable the Wireless Adapter
If the wireless adapter is already enabled, try disabling and re-enabling it. Right-click on the wireless adapter in the Device Manager and select Disable device. Wait a few seconds, then right-click on the adapter again and select Enable device.
Check Power Management Settings
In the Device Manager, right-click on the wireless adapter and select Properties. Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck the box that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Run Network Troubleshooter
Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app. Go to Update & Security and select Troubleshoot from the left-hand menu. Click on Internet Connections and run the troubleshooter.
Reset Network Settings
Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app. Go to Network & Internet and select Status from the left-hand menu. Scroll down and click on Network reset.
Update BIOS
Go to the HP support website and download the latest BIOS update for your laptop. Install the update following the instructions provided by HP.
Reinstall Wireless Driver
Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager from the menu. Right-click on the wireless adapter and select Uninstall device. Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall. Restart your laptop and the wireless driver will be automatically reinstalled.
Check for Interference
Other devices in your home, such as cordless phones, microwaves, and baby monitors, can interfere with your wireless signal. Try moving your router to a different location or changing the wireless channel.
