Hide, Edit, or Remove Microsoft Account Name from Title Bar in Microsoft Office Apps
Microsoft Office apps, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, have been displaying the user's Microsoft Account name in the title bar since their introduction. While some users find this feature helpful, others may prefer to hide or remove it for privacy reasons or to simply declutter the title bar.
Hide Microsoft Account Name
To hide the Microsoft Account name in the title bar, follow these steps:
- Launch any Microsoft Office app (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Click on the File tab in the ribbon.
- Options should be selected from the left-hand side menu.
- In the Options window, select General from the left-hand side menu.
- Uncheck the box next to Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Edit Microsoft Account Name
If you would like to change the displayed Microsoft Account name, you will need to change the account's email address or associated Microsoft Account name.
- Visit the Microsoft Account website.
- Sign in with your Microsoft Account credentials.
- Click on Your info in the navigation pane.
- Click on Edit name or Edit email address and make the necessary changes.
- Save the changes.
Remove Microsoft Account
If you would like to remove the Microsoft Account completely, follow these steps:
- Visit the Microsoft Account website.
- Sign in with your Microsoft Account credentials.
- Click on Security in the navigation pane.
- Under Advanced security options, click on Additional security verification.
- Click on Update your security info.
- Remove all the trusted devices and phone numbers associated with your Microsoft Account.
- Sign out of your Microsoft Account.
- Launch any Microsoft Office app and click on Sign out in the title bar.
- Close the Microsoft Office app and sign back in with your Microsoft Account credentials.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 until no trusted devices or phone numbers remain.
- After removing all trusted devices and phone numbers, click on Sign out in the title bar and close the Microsoft Office app.
- Sign back in with your Microsoft Account credentials, and the Microsoft Account name should no longer be displayed in the title bar.
- Hiding the Microsoft Account name in the title bar can be done through the Options menu in any Microsoft Office app.
- To change the displayed Microsoft Account name, you will need to change the account's email address or associated Microsoft Account name on the Microsoft Account website.
- Removing the Microsoft Account completely requires removing all trusted devices and phone numbers associated with the account on the Microsoft Account website.
