Two Supermicro H11DSi and H11SSL Boards Experiencing Boot Issues After BIOS Upgrade to Version 2.7
Supermicro is a well-known manufacturer of server boards and systems. The H11DSi and H11SSL are popular models used in many data centers and server rooms around the world. Recently, some users have reported boot issues after upgrading the BIOS to version 2.7.
Problem Description
The issue manifests as the board not booting up after the BIOS upgrade. The power LED is on, but there is no display on the monitor, and the board does not post. This behavior is consistent across multiple boards, indicating a possible issue with the BIOS upgrade.

Cause of the Issue
The root cause of the issue is not yet clear, but it appears to be related to the BIOS upgrade to version 2.7. The previous versions of the BIOS do not exhibit this behavior, and downgrading the BIOS to a previous version resolves the issue.
Workaround
The workaround for this issue is to downgrade the BIOS to a previous version. The previous versions that are known to work are 2.5 and 2.6. The downgrade process is straightforward and can be done using a USB flash drive or the IPMI interface.
Downgrade Process
To downgrade the BIOS, follow these steps:
- Download the BIOS image for the previous version from the Supermicro website.
- Extract the BIOS image to a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive.
- Insert the USB flash drive into the server.
- Power on the server and press the
DELkey to enter the BIOS setup. - Navigate to the
Filemenu and selectUpdate BIOS from Disk. - Select the USB flash drive and follow the prompts to downgrade the BIOS.
The boot issues with the Supermicro H11DSi and H11SSL boards after upgrading to BIOS version 2.7 are a known issue. The workaround is to downgrade the BIOS to a previous version.
