Fully Encrypting SSD with Windows 10 Pro using VeraCrypt

Encrypting your SSD (Solid-State Drive) is an essential step to protect your sensitive data from unauthorized access. Windows 10 Pro provides built-in BitLocker encryption, but if you are looking for a free and open-source alternative, VeraCrypt is an excellent option. In this article, we will guide you through the process of fully encrypting your SSD using VeraCrypt on Windows 10 Pro.

Step 1: Download and Install VeraCrypt

First, you need to download VeraCrypt from the official website (https://www.veracrypt.fr/). Choose the appropriate version for your operating system and download the installer. Once the download is complete, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install VeraCrypt on your computer.

Step 2: Launch VeraCrypt and Create an Encrypted Container

After the formatting is complete, click "Exit" to close the VeraCrypt Volume Creation Wizard.

Step 3: Mount and Use the Encrypted Container

Now that you have created the encrypted container, it's time to mount it and start using it.

In the VeraCrypt main window, click on the "Select File" button and choose the encrypted container you created in the previous step. After selecting the file, click "Mount".

In the next window, enter the password you set during the container creation process. Click "OK" to mount the encrypted container.

Once the container is mounted, it will appear as a new drive in Windows Explorer. You can now use it like any other drive on your computer. Copy files, create folders, and save your sensitive data within the encrypted container.

Step 4: Dismount the Encrypted Container

When you are finished using the encrypted container, it is essential to dismount it to ensure the security of your data.

In the VeraCrypt main window, select the mounted drive and click on the "Dismount" button. This will safely remove the encrypted container from your system.
